With the beautiful weather, we did manage to walk around the waterfront area a bit and grabbed some food at Elliott’s Oyster House. Having just returned from Alaska on Princess Cruises, we were eager to explore more of the region on this trip. It had been a while since we sailed on a Norwegian Cruise Line Breakaway-Plus Class ship. We attended the 3-day naming ceremony for Norwegian Encore back in 2019 and we also sailed Norwegian Bliss to Alaska back in 2018. The Norwegian Sun, part of the Sun class of ships, set sail in 2001 but was refurbished in 2018. Extensive refurbishments to modernize the ship has given it fresh appeal, which adults will love.

I tested my soccer skills, but be warned that goalie, she is really good. Perhaps my favorite game to play, and Heidi’s favorite to watch me play, is Descendant. The 7D cinema is a lot of fun too from hunting zombies, werewolves, or crazy clowns. Other simulators include a Jurassic escape, a tightrope walk, and car racing.
Dinner and a Show
Recommendations if touring downtown include Red Onion Saloon, Klondike Doughboy, Skagway Brewing Co., and Alaska Christmas Store. Recommendations if touring downtown include Red Dog Saloon and Tracy’s King Crab Shack. It is very laid back and overlooks the activities in the main atrium. There is more than 1 cruise terminal in Seattle, so it is important to know that the Norwegian Encore ports at Bell Street Cruise Terminal at Pier 66.
Norwegian Cruise Line just ordered four massive cruise ships
For U.S. Citizens on an Alaska Cruise, you may benefit from using your cellular data at port. Many of the cell towers will work for main cell phone carriers without any additional charges. If you don’t have a cell phone or laptop to connect to the wifi, then this can be a great option to get connected. I ran into connection issues many times, especially when trying to log out of my wifi package. Therefore, many minutes were lost not even using the internet, just simply trying to log out.
Review: Is the Norwegian Sun a Good Ship to Cruise Alaska?
We recently had the amazing opportunity to take a 7-day Alaska cruise aboard the Norwegian Encore. View our photo gallery of Alaska cruising photos from Norwegian Cruise Line. Keep in mind, this is just a sample of the sights waiting for you on a Norwegian Cruise Line Alaska cruise vacation.
Day 5 of this Norwegian Encore Alaska Cruise Review was another “sea day” with scenic cruising into Glacier Bay National Park. Saving just a tiny bit of room for dessert, we finished off the meal with the butterscotch budino and tiramisu. After this nearly 2-hour feast, we waddled our way up to the Observation Lounge for some music by the Lemon Duo, one of the live music acts we had yet to see. After about a half hour, we continued on our music tour to the Cavern Club. Day 4 of this Norwegian Encore Alaska Cruise Review had us calling into Skagway for a full day. We also had a comprehensive tour booked for today, the aptly named Best of Skagway shore excursion.

This allowed them to plan ahead of time which activities they wanted to spend their onboard credit on and prevented overspending. In order to avoid having to micro-manage the onboard activity fees during our sailing, we purchased each of our 3 children a set amount of onboard credit. All of the information regarding the next day’s activities and showtimes can be found in the daily newsletter called Freestyle Daily. Then get comfortable with where the bars, restaurants, theater, spa, and casino are in terms of being in the front (fwd), or back (aft) of the ship. Disney Cruise Line exceeded our expectations in terms of its elegant design, high-end services, and enchanting entertainment and set the bar high for our future cruises.

Norwegian Encore Alaska Cruise Review – Day 3
Other cruise lines, including Norwegian, offer itineraries with varying ports of call. Explore the rugged beauty of the Alaska landscape with a Norwegian Cruise Line Alaska cruise. Take a paddleboat out to marvel at the gargantuan glaciers, or see the graceful whales breech. You can view the natural landmarks and interact with the incredible wildlife—including bears, eagles, and husky dogs! Climb and rappel the mountains, dog-sled through the snow, or go fishing for king salmon and halibut. Each day is an adventure when you choose a cruise to Alaska with Norwegian Cruise Line.
Only Norwegian offers Freestyle Cruising®, giving families the freedom to do their own thing on their own schedule. From exciting activities at sea to our complimentary youth programs, Splash Academy and Entourage, we have something to keep everyone happy. Plus, with a wide range of accommodations and enough dining choices to satisfy even the pickiest eaters, seeing Alaska with Norwegian means everyone gets a vacation-even mom and dad. Spanning from 11- to 14-days, these cruise vacation packages include overnight stays in Denali, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Homer, Talkeetna, and Valdez.
Of note, the virtual escape room is extra money and does require reservations. By the time we realized it, the game was already sold out for the week. With nothing concrete on the agenda, we slept in until around 8 AM this morning.
From rock classics like Guns and Roses, to modern pop from Sia and Adelle, to a little Jimmy Buffett, the show is a nonstop, high-energy 75 minutes of fun. The Jungle, also known as the local pub, is the setting where these talented lads share their personal stories alongside song and dance. They even invite the audience to join in on a brew and toast to a memorable night.
Speaking of something else we hadn’t done all cruise, that was get a mango meltdown, one of NCL’s signature frozen drinks. So, in the name of research, we headed outside to the Surf Bar to do just that. Then, given our limited bar options this evening, we grabbed out final drinks of the cruise at the A-List Bar before calling it a night around 11 PM. Cruisers can purchase week-long passes, or day passes on port days pending availability, to this thermal suite. However, there are only a total of 200 passes provided, so be sure to book early. This thermal suite on Norwegian Encore is quite large and features several padded and heated stone loungers.
When we were aboard the Norwegian Jewel, we never docked right inside the town itself, rather we always needed to shuttle to and from town. It did feel like our Norwegian Cruise Ship had the least priority for docking locations (other cruise lines got to dock right in town). There is the guest services desk in the main atrium (deck 7- middle of the ship) where you can discuss any billing issues on board. We felt flavors were lacking, and it just felt like they had dry meat mixed in with some already pre-mixed sauces to help fast production of food. Overall, we thought the meals were good, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say it was 5 stars.
If you just want to enjoy the views, the Observation Lounge and the Waterfront are great places to do so. This lost city of Atlantis themed course offers plenty of nooks and crannies to hide and target the competition. But, you can’t stay stationary too long as you will become a sitting duck for the other team.
This early start allowed for a relaxed and unhurried check-in process. Upon entering the terminal, we found ourselves in a spacious, well-lit hall equipped with rows of check-in counters. Staff were on hand to assist, contributing to an atmosphere of organized efficiency. Choose from eight Cruisetours to see the heart of this great land. With over 27,000 glaciers, Alaska is one of the best places to see these majestic pieces of nature up close.
The area is a historical goldmine, featuring landmarks like Creek Street and buildings dating back to the early 1900s. We also visited Totem Bight State Park, a cultural hub showcasing indigenous art and history. A free gondola ride connects the Adventure Landing dock to the Historic Cannery, making exploring the port’s shopping and dining options easy.
